More Multiple Cracking!

UHPC is ultra-interesting. In a previous post, we questioned why UHPC, which is more ductile than concrete, leads to less ductility at the structural level. Here is the mechanism: 1) the unique strain hardening phase of UHPC ends with localization (formation of a single dominant crack), 2) the high bond between the rebar and matrix causes strain to concentrate at the localization crack, 3) high strains in the localization zone lead to rebar fracture, curtailing structural ductility. Our striated fibers dramatically boost the localization strain and are geared towards improving structural ductility.
